The SSAA has hit back at a blatantly biased view expressed by an ABC producer in response to our statement on Gun Control Australia’s cynical campaign issued on June 29. Upon receiving our statement, ABC Central Coast producer Brad Storey responded via email stating: “Please don’t send me anymore of this propaganda.” In labelling our statement “propaganda”, Mr Storey demonstrated obvious bias against the sport of shooting.

On behalf of around 180,000 SSAA members and one million licensed firearm owners, the SSAA wrote to the ABC raising our concerns about the biased attitude and pointed out that such bias within the ABC has long been suspected by our members.

“We hold the view that Mr Storey has breached the ABC Editorial Policies regarding the required standards essential for all who have editorial responsibility for ABC content. He has also breached the MEAA’s Journalist Code of Ethics…Mr Storey has clearly let his personal views get in the way of practicing fair editorial standards,” our letter says.

Our letter concludes by asking for an apology from Mr Storey and the reassurance that he will be counselled on his obvious bias. We will be sure to bring our members updates on the outcome of our complaint as soon as practical.
