SIFA’s pragmatic approach to firearms regulation

The group representing Australia’s top five firearm importers has put together a pragmatic document detailing some sound technical improvements to the ageing National Firearms Agreement (NFA). It also addresses the firearms-related recommendations from the Martin Place Siege Report 2015.

Document author the Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia (SIFA) has highlighted critical issues with the NFA, including poor quality of data held by firearm registries and outdated processing systems, and suggests workable solutions including the need for real-time availability of data.

The SSAA and SIFA work closely on issues affecting civilian use of firearms where required, with the SSAA by far the largest representative of end-users of firearms in the nation. We applaud the document and will continue to work proactively with like-minded organisations.
