Shooting community disappointed 2026 Victorian Commonwealth Games cancelled

SSAA National is disappointed to hear the Victorian Government’s announcement intending to cancel the 2026 Commonwealth Games for Victoria.

Shooting Australia, as Australia’s National Shooting Organisation for international competitions such as the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games, committed a lot of time and effort into advocating for target shooting to be a part of the sporting line up and it was a real coup for both our sport and the state of Victoria.

SSAA National was among the groups who supported Shooting Australia in its campaign, identifying the value of our sport and community being put up in lights in the mainstream media around the world.

Our athletes are among the finest in the world, with SSAA’s Australian Women’s Shooter columnist Laetisha Scanlan securing the Shotgun World Cup gold in Lonato, Italy just this week. Laetisha stood up amongst a field of 86 competitors to qualify with 118 of 125 targets to secure a finals spot.

Athletes such as Laetisha were looking forward to a chance to compete on home soil and SSAA National laments that this opportunity is no longer going ahead.
