Permanent firearm amnesty

A permanent firearm amnesty now exists across Australia from July 1.

Under the program, people can surrender unregistered firearms or other related items to police stations or licensed dealers anonymously without penalty.

People are also able to organise registration of previously unregistered firearms onto their existing licence. They can also organise for a licensed dealer to hold the firearm while appropriate licensing is sought.

The Australian Government has partnered with Crime Stoppers Australia to launch the amnesty starting July 2021.
