In our ongoing efforts to build positive working relationships with government and law enforcement agencies, your SSAA welcomed representatives from the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) to the National Board meeting last month. The ACIC has specialist investigative and intelligence capabilities and delivers and maintains national information sharing solutions, including firearms data.
The presentation was well received by the Board and offered a better understanding of the work of the ACIC in relation to firearms management, as well as law enforcement approaches to illegal firearms. Current ACIC projects will certainly aid in informing firearm registries, police officers and civilians in the identification of firearms. This in turn will filter down to assist our members in the licensing and registering process.
SSAA National President Geoff Jones reiterated our mantra of being “part of the solution” to the government officials, with licensed firearm owners the most responsible, upstanding citizen in society.
