Tick disease warning for dog owners

Dog owners are being warned of a fatal tick-borne disease passed on via an infected brown dog tick that’s presenting in tropical and subtropical regions of Australia. Canine ehrlichiosis was first detected here in mid-2020 and has been diagnosed in northern Western Australia, northern South Australia, all of the Northern Territory and north-western Queensland.

Those living or travelling with dogs in these areas are being urged to make sure their animals are up to date with tick treatments. Authorities are encouraging dog owners to regularly check their animals for ticks and visit a vet if they have any concerns.
