Take it as red: The 2018 Alice Springs Masters Games

Registrations are now open for the 2018 Alice Springs Masters Games in the red centre from October 13-20. The Games were a huge a success in 2016 and have grown bigger and better each year.

SSAA Alice Springs will again play host to the sports shooting events which are set to be one of the highlights of the Games. Sporting shooters will be able to participate in Muzzle Loading Rifle, Blackpowder Cartridge Pistol, Blackpowder Pistol and Revolver, Western Action (SASS), Field Rifle (rimfire and centrefire), Scoped 3-Positional (rimfire and centrefire), Rifle Metallic Silhouette (rimfire and centrefire), Sporting Clays, Lever Action Rifle, Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette and IHMSA.

Other shooting events will also be run such as ACTA Clay Target disciplines and Pistol Australia disciplines, but these will require separate nominations. As for the sports shooting events listed above, one nomination fee entitles competitors to shoot as many or as few events as they like.

The Friendly Games is a great way to see the Outback, take a holiday and enjoy some competitive shooting at the same time. In fact, the Games consider themselves the “biggest sporting party of the year” with socialising and fun being a huge part of the event. And while they are technically the ‘Masters Games’, competitors can be as young as 25.Categories are separated as age increases so everyone has a chance of collecting a medal.

As for accommodation, many athletes choose to camp out at the venue, with food and drink available at the range during competition. Of course the option to stay in a hotel is always there and it’s only a short trip to SSAA Alice Springs from the centre of town.

Nomination fees for sports shooting are $170 ($100 Games fee + $70 levy) and allow you to enter as many shooting events as you want. For more information call Karl Smith on 0498 450 845 or email [email protected]. If you’re ready to head to the red centre for some shooting, you can nominate now.
