SSAA Inc. advocating on behalf of members in Canberra

In continuing advocacy on behalf of our members, this week the SSAA Inc. CEO, Tom Kenyon along with fellow National Firearms Advisory Council Member, Keith Drain who is SIFA’s Communication and Policy Manager met with former Minister and Senator, Nigel Scullion, at Parliament House in Canberra this week for a series of meetings with MPs, Senators and their advisers from across the political spectrum.

These meetings provided an opportunity to outline the key challenges facing Australia’s shooting industry and the licensed shooters. This included importation clearance delays, firearms categorisation issues and the implementation of the National Firearms Register, and reinforced the importance of responsible, evidence-based policy.

This also provided an opportunity to highlight the growing cooperation between national shooting organisations and the benefits that a national firearms advisory council can bring in advising the Federal Government on critical firearms related policy.

We are grateful for Nigel’s assistance and the time provided by those who met with us.
