Liberal Democrats Senator David Leyonhjelm has made a tongue-in-cheek statement about the results of the ongoing national firearms amnesty to date. “We can be comforted in the knowledge that the Australian people have dumped 25,000 antique, inoperable, neglected or unwanted firearms on the doorsteps of our law enforcement agencies,” he said.
Meanwhile, the SSAA Legislative Action (SSAA-LA) department has asked exactly how many firearms have been registered as part of the amnesty, but this information has not been made available yet. We will be pursuing freedom of information actions if required. The amnesty ends at the end of the month.
