Police begin annual Operation Unification national illegal firearms blitz

Police forces across the country are participating in a national illegal firearms blitz for the next fortnight as a part of the annual Operation Unification initiative. The two-week operation will run from Monday, June 16 until Sunday, June 29, with the aim of ‘getting illicit firearms out of the hands of criminals’.

Police will be conducting security compliance checks and are encouraging the public to contact Crimestoppers if they know of anyone who they believe has acquired a firearm or ammunition illegally or is making, selling or trading illegally.

SSAA National encourages licensed firearm owners to make themselves aware of their state or territory’s firearm laws and ensure they meet the correct licensing and storage requirements for their region.

Contact your local police firearms registry for local information.
