During the next five years NIOA will supply more than 30 different munitions to Australia’s military. The recently struck contract is valued at $95 million and comes with an option to extend it to 15 years.
Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said the deal will create jobs in Brisbane and allow Australia’s Defence Force to capitalise on the latest technology.“NIOA has been a supplier of munitions for many years, and this contract represents their growing success as an Australian business and an important part of our defence industry,” he said.
“This contract ensures the ADF will have a reliable source of munitions, ranging from small arms to 120mm M1A1 Abrams tank ammunition.”
NIOA will source the munitions from its internal partners: Rheinmetall Waffe Munitions, Orbital ATK and Vista Outdoors. According to NIOA, these companies have a strong reputation and history for high-quality products. NIOA also say it is proud to be equipping the Australian Defence Force with the best munitions.
This deal caps off a great year for NIOA with the Australian company going from strength to strength. During April NIOA launched a number of new products while also gaining the agency for German Sports Guns and announcing they would be handling Eley ammunition exclusively in Australia. Then in September we reported on NIOA partnering with the famous American company Colt USA, paving the way for a selection of Colt firearms to be manufactured in the Sunshine State.
If that wasn’t enough, to round out its stellar year, NIOA was honoured with the Medium Business Award at the 2017 Telstra Queensland Business Awards. With NIOA and other firearm businesses on the rise, it’s no wonder that our gun import figures reflect a wealthy and healthy nation.
