Hunting contributes $1.8 billion to NSW economy

According to a report from the NSW Department of Primary Industries, hunting and hunting-related activities and jobs injected $1.8bn into NSW in 2017-2018.

Hunting, game management and employment benefits span beyond the firearms and ammunition industries to camping, hunting and safety equipment, down to fuel, food, accommodation, tours and private game bird farms.

Inclusive of the substantial economic lift for regional NSW, there are major environmental benefits for primary producers. Threatened ecosystems and species are protected by licensed hunters and programs like SSAA Farmer Assist help control introduced and native wildlife numbers.

Furthermore, after successful lobbying by the SSAA, the Federal Government, under Bridget McKenzie Minister for Regional Services, Sport, Local Government and Decentralisation, will be conducting a nationwide survey this year on the many economic benefits of shooting and hunting.
