Fowles Wine’s pre-Melbourne Cup sale

With the Melbourne Cup coming up fast, Fowles Wine has backed a winner for its loyal customers, thanks to a huge online sale. The Friends of Fowles Wine Club members are being offered major savings in time to sample ahead of the ‘race that stops the nation’. The online extravaganza comes days ahead of the wine sale that Fowles will be hosting at its Cellar Door in Avenel, Victoria, on the pre-Melbourne Cup weekend (November 1 to 3). But why wait, when there are bargains in the online stable?

At the starters’ paddock is the Stone Dwellers 2008 Shiraz. This earthy temptation is big, rich, and dense with red fruit and dark chocolate aromas, plus a lovely, silky finish. There are eight dozen cases left, so move in quickly. The Cellar Door price is $300 per dozen. The usual Friends of Fowles Wine discount will apply.

Next in line is the 490metres 2012 Sauvignon Blanc. This cool and fine vintage has a zesty lime and kiwi fruit notes with a clean palate. The Cellar Door price is $179.40 per dozen, but the Friends’ tally is $120 per dozen.

The Stone Dwellers 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded 94 points by James Halliday and looks like the perfect full-bodied, rich wine to enjoy with barbecue meats on Cup day. The Cellar Door price is again $179.40 per dozen, while the Friends rate’ is $120 per dozen.

Making up the rear of the field is the 490metres 2011 Chardonnay, which looks a good bet. With aromas of stonefruit, creamy butter and hints of honey on the nose, James Halliday awarded this wine of crispy acidity 90 points. The rates are $179.40 per dozen at Cellar Door and $120 for Friends.
