Exposure Draft Amendment to Firearms Importation Scheme

Press release from the Hon Jason Clare MP, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Justice, Minister for Defence Materiel

The Minister for Home Affairs and Justice is undertaking a review of the firearms importation scheme contained in the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 (Cth) (the ‘Regulations’); in particular, regulation 4F and schedule 6. In October 2012, a public consultation paper was released which contained various proposals to improve the firearms importation scheme.

Having considered the outcomes of that consultation process, a public exposure draft of the proposed amendments to the Regulations has been developed and is now available for public comment.

Interested stakeholders are invited to make submissions in relation to the proposed amendments by 5pm (AEST) on Friday, 7 June 2013. The preferred method is for submissions to be sent by email to [email protected].
