The issue of safety training for firearm licence applicants is on the agenda at a meeting of Police Ministers in Sydney on June 9-10.
David Kay Training and Development Services Pty Ltd of Victoria have at the request of the Federal Government developed a draft training package in consultation with interested parties. Each state police minister now has a copy of this draft document and its merits and shortcomings will be discussed.
The Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia (SSAA National), which represents the interests of some 120,000 licenced firearm owners in this country, will be monitoring this process with interest, without resorting to unfounded emotion and distorting of facts.
Executive Director of International Affairs and Public Relations Mr Keith Tidswell will be available for comment on the outcome of this meeting.
