As a five-time Olympian and three-time Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist in pistol shooting, I’m a big supporter of recreational and sport shooting and understand that the vast majority of firearms owners comply with the safe use and storage of firearms.
Whilst most firearms legislation is regulated by the state governments, Labor and I strongly support Australia’s existing gun laws, which have kept Australians safe, and we oppose any attempts at weakening those laws.
We also strongly support the rights of recreational shooters, farmers and hunters and we don’t believe that supporting those rights and the safe use of firearms are mutually exclusive. Further, we are committed to working with all stakeholders to solve issues such as firearm theft.
As with all sports, Labor and I support sport shooting at both grassroots and elite levels. We will always invest in world-class facilities and talent pathways to support grassroots shooting and elite athletes.
