SSAA (WA) Rifle Metallic Silhouette State Championship 2020

Following the significant disruptions caused by the global pandemic, Western Australia was in the envious position which allowed opening of our SSAA Ranges and the recommencement of shooting competitions. With some superior organisational skills of Dave Sargent of Perth Rifle Metallic Silhouette Club (PRMSC), we were able to schedule in the 2020 SSAA  Rifle Metallic Silhouette Western Australian Championships for the weekend of October 3-4, 2020 at the recently refurbished PRMSC range.

Shooting began early on Saturday morning with the increasingly popular Air Rifle competition. This was followed by Rimfire Silhouette Rifle shot on the recently installed rimfire target stands which allows shooters to shoot “10 to the line” for each of the four target distances giving an impressive 12 bays of 40 targets. The day was closed out with Rimfire Hunting Rifle. Sunday saw a drop in shooter numbers as the centrefires were brought out to make some noise. Match one was Centrefire Silhouette Rifle shot in surprisingly calm conditions, Centrefire Hunting Rifle following after lunch in typical Perth gusty and buffeting conditions.

After two days of competition, three separate shooters took out top spot in each of the individual RMS disciplines. After the last shot was fired the final 5-gun aggregate positions were as follows: 1st Dahmon Sorongan (139) , 2nd Paul Dunn (135), 3rd Charles Smyth (120) and top junior Ash Chapman taking fifth place (87). See attached for full results in each of the grades and aggregates.

Thanks go to all who assisted in making the competition a success with special thanks to Dave Sargent, Rochelle Chapman, Ridge Chapman and the Dunn family.
