SSAA WA Lever Action State Titles

The Albany Lever Action Rifle Club hosted the SSAA Western Australia Lever Action State Titles over the June long weekend at the Muttonbird Range. The shoot was well attended, with 45 competitors contesting the Open, Classic Calibre and Revolver titles. A strong contingent of Perth Lever Action Rifle Club members came down for the event. The Albany club was also pleased to welcome two leading interstate shooters in Jim Buckley and Jim Ellis from New South Wales.
Going into the last target of the Open competition on Saturday, Albany’s Steve Hurley had to shoot 100/100. Hurley held his nerve and shot a possible to finish with a score of 542.11/600, just edging out Albany Club Captain David Sobik by 0.2 of a point on 542.09. Perth’s Jim Hay finished third on 537.10/600.
Sunday saw WA Lever Action Chairman Keith Mills from the Perth Club take out the Classic Calibre title with 298.01/350, with Steve Hurley second on 297.03 and Perth’s Mick Worner third with 294.04/350.
SSAA WA President and SSAA National Senior Vice President Ron Bryant presented the awards at the Sunday night presentation. Winners included:
Open and 2-Gun Champion: Steve Hurley, Albany.
Classic Calibre Champion: Keith Mills, Perth.
Senior Open and 2-Gun Champion: Rob Gill, Albany.
Senior Classic Calibre Champion: Richard Colmer, Albany.
Junior Champion for Open, Classic Calibre, Revolver and 2-Gun: Lachy Butler, Albany.
Revolver Champion: Rob Griffith, Cranbrook.
Open Teams: 1st Albany, 2nd Nyabing Allstars, 3rd Perth.
Traditional Teams: 1st Perth, 2nd Nyabing, 3rd Albany.
