SSAA Queensland IRB and Rimfire Benchrest State Titles

The SSAA Rockhampton Branch recently hosted the Queensland State International Rimfire Benchrest and Rimfire Groups Championships from May 30 to June 2. With competitors from around the state as far north as Cairns, the Championships were attended by some of the best Benchrest shooters in Queensland.

Rockhampton Branch Benchrest Captain Ken Wheeler said the club was delighted with the success of the Championships.

“The four days of competition went well, with all competitors commenting on how well organised and smoothly run it was. The weather was nice to us and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves immensely, with the camping available onsite, great range facilities and friendly, relaxing atmosphere,” said Ken.

“There has been a great amount of work in organising these Championships by club members and volunteers, which was the reason everything had gone so well, and now that the club has the range up to competition specs, we’ll be able to run some serious national events in the future.”

SSAA Rockhampton would like to congratulate a number of junior competitors on participating and achieving some very impressive results. The winners of the Junior Class were Sarsha Wheeler from Rockhampton, followed by Kailah Rutherford and Chelsea Rutherford.

In the Open Class, the winners were Michael Truscott from Gladstone, Ken Wheeler of Rockhampton, Chris Parry and Bob Mulder from Mackay, as well as our talented local junior Sarsha Wheeler and Annie Elliott and Paul Sullivan from Brisbane.

A big thumbs up to Michael Truscott for some awesome shooting at a challenging range in Rockhampton. Dominating the competition, Mick walked away with the seven gold medals awarded for winning nearly every single event in IRB, Heavy Rimfire and Light Rimfire.
