SSAA NSW Muzzleloading State Titles

The SSAA NSW Muzzleloading State Titles were hosted by Cranston Wilson, Rudi Schneider and the ACT Black Powder Club at the SSAA Majura Range in Canberra in the ACT. They did a great job of looking after the competitors with the help of the Junior Club assisting with catering. The weather was cold with frosty mornings and cold blustery winds during the day, which made the shooting quite challenging.

Patricia Hanlon and new shooters Rachael Grogan, Kelvin Moss and Ian McCall qualified for their Marksman Proficiency bronze medals. Also, Ian McCall collected a silver proficiency medal.

Bruce Drover was the outstanding shooter of the State Titles. He won all four Aggregate medals and trophies, which to my knowledge has never happened before. He also shot a 97.4 in the 50m Offhand Traditional Rifle. His target has been submitted to the SSAA Muzzleloading National Discipline Chairman for checking as a new national record. The current record is 97.3.

The weather made shooting conditions difficult for everyone, but some, such as Glenn Barnsley, Kelvin Moss and Ian McCall did improve over their previous year’s results. Patricia Hanlon shot her highest scores in two ladies events and beat her husband into third place in the 100m Class 1 Bench Rest after borrowing one of his rifles.

Thank you to SSAA ACT and the Black Powder Club for making it a successful and enjoyable event.
