SSAA NSW 5-Stand State Titles

The SSAA New South Wales 5-Stand State Titles were held on May 16 and 17 at the Majura Park Gun Club range with visitors from Newcastle, Bermugui, Griffith, Hay and Sydney. The range setters provided the shooters with some very challenging targets over two layouts. The targets were very visible, with a variety of looping high targets to very low crossing targets.

Only one 25/25 round was shot for the weekend and that was by Darren Macartney on day two. Some very good scores were shot, with a couple of personal bests for the junior shooters.

At the completion of the weekend, a father and daughter took out the major titles. Darren Macartney won the High Gun and was crowned the SSAA NSW State 5-Stand Champion. The new criteria for State Champion includes your best three selection shoots and your state title percentage scores added together. His daughter Mikayla Macartney won the Junior State Title, which is a great achievement for her first year of shooting. Mikayla will be one to look out for in the future.

Generous sponsorship was provided by Gamebore Cartridges (Intershooting) and Casella Wines of Griffith. Shoot administration was handled by Rachel in the office, while the ladies in the kitchen provided the shooters with some very tasty meals.

At the completion of the event, the SSAA NSW 5-Stand State Team was announced to compete at the 5-Stand National Championships in Toowoomba in July. The team includes Darren Macartney 387.9%, Greg Allen 385.3%, Rod McCloy 360.6%, Brent Suprain 354.3% and Anthony Blacker 347.2%. The reserves are Jamie Cirillo 337.5% and Peter Jacka 327.0%.
