2024 National Air Rifle Field Target Championships

The SSAA Air Rifle Field Target National Championships were held at SSAA Tin Can Bay from the 20th to the 22nd of September inclusive. Sadly quite a few of our regular competitors were unable to attend this year due to family commitments and financial constraint.

Open Air Rifle saw a Field of 22 competitors take to the paddock to test their skills on what proved to be a very challenging course in tricky conditions that had been beautifully prepared by the SSAA Tin Can Bay members. Final results saw Stefan Viljoen from Queensland top score with a double 47/50 giving him an aggregate of 94/100, Chris Dale came in second with a 45/50 and a 42/50 for an aggregate of 87/100 with Cobus Viljoen and Darius Krivanek both shooting 41/50 and 42/50 for tied score of 83/100 with an ensuing shoot off. In the end Cobus showed his nerves to be stronger than Darius taking out third place.

Springer day saw our numbers shrink to 11 competitors in total but nevertheless competition was still hot amongst the grades. Switching winds and Spring guns meant that Sunday was a much more challenging day than it first presented to be at sight in. Top score was a very respectable 35/50 from Darius Krivanek which meant that he successfully defended his 2023 National Championship result with a respectable 118/150 with Chris Dale coming in second with 108/150 and Tin Can Bay local, Mick Eberhard taking third place honours with a neat 100/150.

As always, a massive thank-you to the Tin Can Bay members for putting on such a great competition and keeping us fed all weekend.
