After an almost 3-year hiatus a cold, windy and wet weekend greeted a small band of competitors who braved to venture out to the SSAA National Air Rifle Field Target championship on the 3rd to the 5th of June 2022.

The conditions tested both the competitor’s skill set and their sanity. Cold wet fingers made picking up .177 caliber pellets and loading rifles the first of many challenges that needed to be overcome. Strong winds and freezing temperatures made shooting somewhat uncomfortable and challenging, which, in turn made scoring hits extremely satisfying albeit somewhat few and far between for some competitors. At times the wind was so strong that merely hitting the faceplate of the various targets was somewhat of a miracle, let alone actually making a scoring shot. At one point the holdoff on a 50m target was well in excess of 600mm with many shots disappearing never to be seen again!
