2016 SSAA National Sporting Clays Championships & SSAA WA 5-Stand and Sporting Clays State Titles
23-25 September 2016 - Three Springs
The tiny Western Australian township of Three Springs pulled out all the stops to put on a show as host of a prestigious National event over the long weekend of September 23-25, 2016.
The Three Springs Sporting Clays (TSSC) did a sterling job presenting the SSAA National Sporting Clays Championships and the SSAA Western Australia 5-Stand and Sporting Clays State Titles. A large number of competitors flocked to the remote location 313km north of Perth in the heart of wheat farming country, with some travelling as far as the eastern states to take part.
The gathering was a great success with some excellent shooting on display. Paul McGowan came away as the winner of the 5-Stand category a score of 46/50, while the WA State Title and WA National Title were won by Darren Macartney with scores of 97/100 and 185/200 respectively. The Overall High Gun was McGowan with a tally of 230/250.
It was exciting for TSSC, as a small regional club, to be handed the responsibility of going ahead with such an iconic occasion. To be able to do it so well makes all club members rightly feel proud. They can look forward to being able to host other such engagements in the future.
Such a pleasing outcome could only have been possible with the valued support from all the sponsors and donations. Thank you to SSAA National, SSAA WA, Winchester Australia, Metso Australia, Batavia Coast Firearms, Geraldton Fuel, Warren Brown and Mervyn Holben.
The weather was also kind and provided a great environment for some spirited shooting. With previous success using Winchester Vivaz targets, the TSSC decided to make these the targets of choice for the event and all shooters were very happy with the results.
The support and efforts of everyone who participated, whether it be as a shooter or supporter, enabled proceedings to be pulled together beautifully and each day was finished off with an amazing selection of meals, including desserts. The organisation of supplying lunches and dinners was handled stylishly by a team of people who should be filled with pride over their efforts. There were also a number of jobs such as cleaning, dishwashing, packing up, serving and many other little chores that just needed to be done over the weekend. Everybody pitched in and this allowed the action to flow, so thank you to one and all who gave their help.
