The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia supports the call by Queensland Police Minister Tom Barton for “community members to inform police about illegal activities.” (The Advertiser – Adelaide – 3/5/2000)
The recent shooting of police in Brisbane by a mentally disturbed person again draws attention to the inability of a Firearm Registration System to prevent the criminally insane obtaining illegal firearms.
Accordingly, the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia has requested from its 120,000 members, support for the Queensland Police Service in obtaining accurate information about persons who have in their possession firearms without the appropriate authority. The Association expects appropriate penalties for malicious or false reports to the Police.
