National Championships Expressions of Interest Sought

Effective July 1 this year, the National Field Rifle Championships and National NRA Championships will be conducted as separate events for an initial period of two years. This change reduces reliance on Easter scheduling, easing peak travel and volunteer pressures. The Field Rifle Championships will be a two to three-day event with four core matches: Field Rifle Rimfire, Field Rifle Centrefire, Three-Position Rimfire and Three-Position Centrefire, forming the two-gun and four-gun aggregates.

The National NRA Championships will also run for two to three days and include four matches: Three-Position Any Sight, Three-Position Iron Sight, Prone Any Sight and Prone Iron Sight, which together form a national NRA four-gun aggregate championship. Optional Air Rifle events, 10-metre Scoped Precision and 10-metre Scoped Three-Position may be included at either championship at the host club’s discretion, but won’t contribute to the national aggregates.

This approach also provides the chance to broaden the scope of NRA matches available to competitors, and for potential host clubs to nominate preferential championship dates or windows which align with existing schedules, providing greater flexibility. Minimum hosting requirements are a range able to accommodate 200m for Field Rifle and a 50m range for NRA, both with at least 15 firing points/bays. Further operational details will be settled collaboratively with appointed hosts.

Clubs are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to host either or both 2027 championships, along with any proposed timings with endorsement routed via their respective State Association. The EOI window closes on November 30, 2026. Submissions should include proposed dates, facilities and any forward interest in hosting beyond 2027 to support longer-term planning. All submissions will be reviewed by the National Discipline Committee Chairman and Disciplines Sub-Committee, with successful hosts advised following the review. Appointments will then be made as early as practicable.
