Member Update – National Firearms Register

The SSAA have been provided with the following update from the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department for our members.
As part of the National Firearms Register (NFR) Program, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) is enhancing the National Firearms Identification Database (NFID). The tool helps ensure a firearm is described consistently during its registration, during importation or during transfer of ownership and movement across state and territory borders.
Each firearm will be allocated a unique identifier within the NFR that is informed by the make, model, type, action, calibre, serial number and NFID number to enable cradle to grave tracking of a firearm.
