As many of you may have seen, and as a response to the Bondi terrorist attack, the Prime Minister has recalled Parliament next week to with the intention to introduce into Parliament the Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill 2026. The SSAA Inc., and the SSAA state branches will continue to advocate on behalf of our members in relation to this, with a strong emphasis that registered firearm owners are law abiding and responsible.
This Bill is package of reforms, and in relation to firearms it seeks to:

Establishes the National Gun Buyback Scheme

Introduces a range of firearms amendments relating to intelligence use for background checking, importing, and online material for the manufacture of firearms and explosives
Further to this, it also:

Creates aggravated offences for hate preachers and leaders seeking to radicalise children

Increases the penalties for hate crimes offences

Ensures that offenders whose crimes were motivated by extremism have that factored into their sentencing

Creates a new offence for publicly promoting or inciting hatred, or disseminating ideas of racial superiority

Creates a new framework that will enable the Australian Federal Police Minister to list organisations as ‘Prohibited Hate Groups’. Once an organisation is listed – it will be a criminal offence to direct the activities, be a member, recruit for, train, provide or receive funds or provide support for a prohibited hate group

Expands and strengthens the prohibited hate symbols offences

Expands the ability of the Minister for Home Affairs to cancel or refuse a visa for people who spread hatred
