SSAA National puts forward Australian Pest Animal Strategy submission

SSAA National has put forward a submission to the Federal Government’s Australian Pest Animal Strategy 2017 to 2027 draft consultation process. The public consultation was conducted by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources from September 5 to October 14, with feedback invited to help shape the Invasive Plants and Animals Committee’s revised strategy before it is submitted to the National Biosecurity Committee for endorsement prior to publication in early 2017.

SSAA National responded to the draft and provided feedback on how the revised strategy sets out the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders in pest management and prevention. We also commented on whether the goals and priorities of the strategy are focused in the necessary areas and how pest animal management fits into the Australia’s biosecurity system, highlighting how the SSAA and its members can be key stakeholders in pest management, particularly asset protection.
