SSAA Monarto Metallic Silhouette Rifle Club
South Australia Club Profile

South Australia is fortunate to have a number of shooting clubs but only one can lay claim to the state’s only national/international 500m range - and that is the SSAA Monarto Metallic Silhouette Rifle Club. The club shoots at the Monarto Complex, which is also home to a number of other shooting groups.
The SSAA Monarto Metallic Silhouette Rifle Club started in 1980 and held the first state centrefire championship in 1984. While it started with only 23 members, it now has more than 75. Those shooters enjoy a clubroom capable of catering during range days, a large storage shed, powered sites suitable for camping during state or national titles and toilet facilities, which are currently shared with the Big Bore Rifle Club, although plans to install separate toilet facilities are well under way.
Other range upgrades include installing extra benches at the 500-metre firing point, which will allow fly shoots to be conducted; increasing the height and width of some of the backstops, making the firing line wheelchair accessible and, as time and money permit, covering most of the 130m wide firing line. The latter task will be performed in conjunction with the SSAA Pistol Silhouette Club.
The ins and outs of running a major event are well known to the club, which has hosted the national silhouette championships in both 1995 and 1997 and will host again in 2002. The club participated in running the World Muzzleloading Championships in 2001, which has been described by many as the best event of its type ever.
The club assists with the training of army cadets. In fact, it was the Metallic Silhouette Rifle Club that instigated the current Cadet Challenge and it is their unit that is winning a number of awards.
If you are interested in trying your hand at rifle metallic silhouette, the Metallic Silhouette Rifle Club is the place to do it.
