SSAA Caboolture Branch Inc

Queensland Club Profile

SSAA Caboolture branch was formed in 1994 when a public meeting was held to establish a rifle range in northern Brisbane and offer some focus away from the anti-gun sentiment being expressed at the time. The branch has since grown to 330 rifle shooters and now includes a pistol club of about 80 members.

Currently the SSAA Caboolture branch has the use of the Murrumba Pistol Club range through the Murrumba club’s generosity. The SSAA Caboolture pistol section shoots every Thursday night from 7pm and has a full shooting calendar with centrefire, rapidfire and standard match being shot. The competition for the weekly trophy and annual awards can become pretty intense; however, the practise range is also open each Thursday night for those looking to develop their skills further. We have a number of keen lay pistol shooters. Members agree that the friendly atmosphere of the club makes for enjoyable shooting among friends.

Club captain, Geoff Hall, and his band of range officers ensure range safety is of top priority while also providing coaching and guidance to progress shooter’s skills.

The branch has club guns and ammo available for prospective shooters and visitors looking to give both rifle and pistol shooting a go. Our longarm members are catered for with organised day trips to nearby rifle ranges. The friendly atmosphere of the club seems to bring members together and these trips have proved a great success, thanks to SSAA Belmont and the Kilkivan Big Bore Club where our members have enjoyed shooting visits.

It is Caboolture’s dream to occupy its own range one day. After a number of false starts, the club is still scouting for a suitable site - but with a high level of housing developments throughout the area it may not happen as soon as they would like. The branch does remain hopeful and is willing to investigate any suitable site brought to their attention.

The Caboolture branch would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to try the shooting sports and urges experienced shooters to pop into the club at any time. The Caboolture branch would like to extend a special invitation to any SSAA longarm shooters who were not aware of a branch operating in Caboolture.
