Condobolin Single Action Sharpshooters

New South Wales Club Profile

The Condobolin Single Action Sharpshooters club in Condobolin, NSW, celebrated its official 2-day opening in May this year, after more than four years in the making.

The Sharpshooters club, which is situated approximately 25km north of Condobolin and on the land generously donated by local resident Peter Quin, held its Grand Opening on Saturday May 7. Guests of honour at the official proceedings included Roy Smith and John Pond, NSW SSAA’s Executive Director and NSW Senior Vice President, respectively.

The club’s Open Day, held the following day, gave members of the public the opportunity to try shooting without a licence and to witness Single Action and Colonial Action competitions.

The club has 18 members at present but is growing all the time, with three new members joining soon. Carol Anderson, Secretary and Firearms Safety Officer of the club, is always encouraging new members to join.

People can come along to the club and get a shooter’s licence, as well as membership forms to the SSAA and our club,” she said.

The club’s President and Captain, Barry Howarth, was also very proud of the club’s efforts and looks forward to new members.

The Sharpshooters shoot the first, third and fourth Saturday of each month. Their range is registered up to 800m and is approved for lever action rifles and centrefire pistols (both up to .45 calibre), rimfire target pistols (up to .22 calibre), shotguns (up to 12-gauge and using no larger than No. 7 shot), rimfire and air rifles (in .22 calibre) and black powder rifles (up to .50 calibre).

Their approved events include ISSF, IPSC, Single Action (previously Western Action) events, Lever Action matches, Benchrest matches, Field Rifle, 3-Postitional Black Powder Rifle events, Benchrest Position Centrefire Rifle events and general target practice (for approved firearms only).

The club has provision for clay target shoots, tomahawk throws and bow and arrow targets and is looking to add more variety to their club with a metallic silhouette range as well.

The Condobolin Single Action Sharpshooters wish to thank Peter Quin, the Young Pistol Club and the many individuals and organisations who kindly helped the club with donations and support.
