New South Wales Club Profile

In Dairyville, just 15 kilometres from the beautiful sights and sounds of Coffs Harbour, the SSAA Coffs Harbour shooting range sits surrounded by beautiful rainforests and dairy farmers. Set in a small valley filled with trees and creeks, the club has about 25 active members and more than 75 registered members. The current club champion is Hiro Haraguchi Davis.

The Coffs Harbour club was founded in 1980, with John Radford acting as the first club president. Other foundation members include Joe Garrett, Coral Garrett and Joan Radford. The current president is Peter Fleming and the club secretary is Bob Boyce.

The club has a 50m, 100m and 200m range, leased from the Coffs Harbour Big Bore Club, and covered benchrest and loading areas. While renovations are not yet on the drawing board, talks about the addition of a toilet block have been ongoing.

Every August the club hosts the Bananacoast Open Championships Light and Heavy Varmint Benchrest competition - bringing in about 45 competitors. In July, Coffs Harbour hosted the rimfire 50m, 100m and 50m hunter for the 2000 Masters Games. About a dozen competitors from Canberra, Armidale, Coonabarabran and Coffs Harbour attended.

The 2000 NSW State Rimfire Championships will be held at the range on October 14, as it has successfully been for the past two years. About 20 competitors are expected to attend. The range is open every Saturday. Rimfire and centrefire shoots are held on alternating Saturdays. General shooting is held on the second Saturday of the month for compliance with firearm licensing requirements.

The disciplines shot at the club include rimfire benchrest, rimfire hunter class, centrefire benchrest, centrefire hunter class and hunting rifle.

For those interested in sport shooting and superb scenery, a trip to Coffs Harbour is sure to please.
