New South Wales Greens MP David Shoebridge has thrust himself into the national spotlight by calling for a ban on semi-automatic handgun following incidents with criminals and illegal firearms.
His first announcement came not long after a mass-murder in the United States, which was undertaken by a man who was revealed to be suffering from a mental illness. His next ban announcement came after a shooting in his state.
Mr Shoebridge appears to be using any excuse to target licensed and law-abiding firearm owners, instead of looking to where the real problem is - criminals using illegal firearms.
