Dear Mr (deleted)
Thank you for your letter of (deleted), 1997 expressing your concerns in relation to Superintendent Robbins.
I note your concern. However, I am not in a position to comment on the relationship between Police chiefs in Canada and Canadian Coalition for gun Control as it is an area under control.
Further, I am advised by the affidavit provided by Superintendent Robbins was at the request of a bona fide law enforcement agency in Canada for use in a legal matter to which they are party.
Notwithstanding the above, whilst I agree with your suggestion that the Western Australian Police Service should not enter into political debates, on matters of community safety and associated laws, I believe it becomes appropriate for executive officers of the Police Service to make public comment.
I thank you for your inquiry and trust this clarifies my position on the issue.
Yours sincerely
(SIGNED)
