Letter to Ian Causley MP National Party by concerned SSAA member #726
To The Editor
Australian Shooters Journal
Dear sir,
I recently approached both my sitting members of Parliament, Mr. Harry Woods, ALP State sitting Member and Mr. Ian Causley federal National Party sitting member. I told them both what my concerns are regarding the new firearms laws that now have been forced upon normal everyday law abiding citizens in Australia. Both were given photo stat copies of the ILA reports from November 1996 till August 1997 with the sections that I wished them to read highlighted for their convenince.
I then asked for both of them to send me a letter outlining their views on the new laws and that I would attempt to have these published in the ASJ. So far only Mr Causley had his finger on the pulse as to what the ordinary people of Australia think of the new gun laws. What he did tell me about how John Howard made the decision that he did is correct, then he did not follow what the mainstream members of his coaltion wanted.
On the other hand when I asked Mr Woods why are NSW gun laws different to what they are in other states he could not answer me. I then asked him how he would like to be suspended from his job as our local gun Dealer now finds himself because he is not as yet allowed to sell firearms. I also posed the question of why there are still semi automatic and pump action weapons for sale on Dealer's shelves in Queensland. When these weapons and parts for these weapons all had to be handed in by Dealers in NSW. Mr Woods could give no answer to these questions and was unaware of the situation that exists. Do not get me wrong, I do not have a grudge against Mr Woods personally as for the last 2 years at election time I was at the Polling Booth near where I live handing out the ALP How to Vote leaflets. Next time I will not be so generous with my time and energy for a government who has done, without any referendum what the people of Australia can only see to be the first stop towards the total disarming of the Australian citizen by deceit.
I have been forced by my Government to hand in 2 pump action shotguns one of which was my fathers and I do not to wish to lose any more of my firearms. Keep up the good work that you are doing because I know that you have the best wishes and wholehearted support of every firearms owner in Australia.
Thank you
Yours sincerely
