Fees
One of the main functions of the proposed Regulations is to prescribe fees
for firearms licences, permits and other approvals. The proposed fees are
explained below.
Category A longarm
licence fee
Persons wanting to possess and use:
- airguns
- rimfire rifles (other than semiauto rimfire rifles)
- shotguns (other than semiauto/pumpaction shotgun)
- shotgun/rimfire combinations
under the new act will need a licence for category A longarms. The fee..which will run for 5 years, will be calculated on the basis of an annual charge of $27 (for natural persons), and $50(for bodies corporate). The same fees will apply for the renewwal of category A licences.
Category B longarm
licence fee
Persons wanting to possess and use:
- muzzle-loading firearms
- centerfire rifles (other than semiauto centrefire rifles) or
- any shotgun/centrefire combination
under the new Act will need a licence for category B longarms. The fee...which will run for five years, will be calculated on the basisi of an annual charge of $32 (natural persons), and $50 (bodies corporate). The same fees will apply for the renewal of category B licences.
Category C longarm
licence fee
Persons wanting to possess and use:
- semiauto rimfire rifle mag capacity no more than 10 rounds
- semiauto shotgun mag capacity no more than 5 rounds
- pumpaction shotgun mag capacity no more than 5 rounds
- tranqilliser guns
under the new Act will need a licence for category C longarms. The fee.. which can run up to three years, will be calculated on the basis of an annual charge of $32 (for natural persons), and $50 (for bodies corporate). The same fees will apply for the renewal of the Category C licences.
Category D longarm
licence fee
Persons wanting to possess and use
- semiauto centrefire rifles
- semiauto rimfire rifle mag capacity over 10 rounds
- semiauto shotguns mag capacity over 5 rounds
- pumpaction shotguns mag capacity over 5 rounds: or
- any other prescribed firearm
under the New Act will need a licence for category D longarms. The fee...which will run for up to three years, will be calculated on the basis of an annual charge of $50 (for natural persons), and $80 (for bodies corporate). The same fees will apply for the renewal of category D licences.
Category E longarm licence fee
Persons wanting to possess and use
- machine guns
- tear gas guns or projectors
- shortened shotguns or rifles
- cannons, bazookas, mortars, rocket-proplled grenades: or
- any other prescribed firearms
under the new Act will need a licence for category E longarms. The fee...which will run for up to three years, will be calculated on the basis of an annual charge of $50(for natural persons) and $80 (for bodies corporate). The same fees will apply for the renewal of category E licences.
Handgun licence - sport
or target shooting
Persons wanting to possess or use handsguns under the new Act for sport or
target shooting purposes will need a handgun licence. The fee...which wuill
run for up to five years, will be calculated on annual charge of $32 (for
natural persons), $100 (for bodies corporate holding 20 or less handguns under
the licence), and $200 (for bodies corporate holding more than 20 handguns
under the licence). Same fees for renewals.
Handgun licence - security
guard, prison guard, official or commercial purposes
Persons wanting to possess handguns under the new Act for occupational, official
or commercial reasons will need a handgun licence. The fee... which will run
for up to five years, will be calculated on the annual charge of $60 (for
natural persons), $100 (for corporate bodies holding 20 or less handguns under
the licence), and $200 (corporate bodies holding more than 20 handguns under
the licence). Same fees for renewals.
Junior Licence
Persons who are over 12 and under 18 and want to carry or use category A or
B longarms or handguns under the new Act will need a junior licence. The fee...which
will run for yup to three years, will be calculated on an annual charge of
$10. Same fee for renewals.
Firearms collectors
licence fee
Persons wanting to collect firearms under the new Act will need a firearms
collectors licence. The fee.. which will run for up to five years will be
calculated on the basis of an annual charge of $40 (for natural persons),
and $80 (for bodies corporate) . The same fees for renewals.
Firearms ammunition
collectors fee
Persons wanting to collect firearms ammunition under the new Act will need
a firearms ammunition collector's licence. The fee...which will run for yp
to five years, will be calculated on the basis of an annual charge of $20
(for natural persons) and $40 (for corporate bodies). The same fees for renewals.
Firearms Heirlooms licence fee
Persons wanting to retain an inherited firearms as an heirloom will require
an heirloom licence under the new firearms Act. The fee... which will run
for up to five years will be calculated on the basis of an annual charge of
$20 (for natural persons) and $40 (for bodies corporate). Same fees for renewals.
