Flow of preferences
Parties register the way they want their preferences to flow with the Australian Electoral Commission prior to the election date. These Senate Group Voting Tickets spell out how your vote will work if you vote above the line in the Senate.

As shown in this example, if you vote above the line, you are giving your chosen party the power to flow preferences how they want, not how you want.

However, if you take the time to number all of the boxes below the line, as shown in this example, you have complete control over who gets your vote.
To help you make an informed vote, make sure you know your candidates before Election Day. You can even create an example of how you would like to vote below the line and take this into the polling booth with you, so you have complete control over your vote.
