The Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia held its 47th Annual General Meeting in Coolangatta on May 2 and 3. The meeting was attended by SSAA delegates from each state and territory, as well as several observers, including former Northern Territory President Ray Topfer and former National President Bill Shelton.
Reports were presented on behalf of the SSAA Media & Publications, Hunting, International and Lobbying, Disciplines, Finance, Merchandise and Membership departments. The Treasurer, Secretary and President also presented reports.
Elections were held for officer positions, with SSAA National President Bob Green re-elected unopposed. With the retirement of long-time SSAA stalwart Malcolm Gardam, Victoria’s Bob Cooper was elected Senior Vice President, with New South Welshman Richard Gawned elected as Junior Vice President. Alf Bastian and Kaye McIntyre were re-elected as National Treasurer and Secretary respectively.
Pleasingly, despite the current economic downturn, it was reported that SSAA membership has in fact increased, with particularly steady growth in junior membership. It was decided that to assist members in these times that membership fees would remain at their current level.
