Special statement about the passing of Jane McGrath
SSAA National President Bob Green today expressed his deepest sympathy on behalf of the Association’s 120,000 members to Glenn McGrath and his family on the passing of Jane McGrath.
For more than a decade Jane battled with cancer, but those of us who saw her cheery disposition and room-warming smile can only be inspired by her courage, love of life and her deepest love for her husband Glenn, son James and daughter Holly.
Jane’s time ended all too soon. However, she has left a vital legacy that will be a benefit to women fighting breast cancer for many, many years to come.
Jane and Glenn started the McGrath Foundation in 2002 to offer breast-care nurses to those women fighting cancer. Only this year, both Jane and Glenn were awarded Members in the General Division of the Order of Australia for their dedication to this cause.

SSAA National first became involved with the Foundation in 2006 when Glenn, a SSAA member for life, confronted the critics by openly talking about his enjoyment of recreational shooting and hunting and introduced us to the cause of the McGrath Foundation.
“As I said a year ago, the women who battle with breast cancer are our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters. I consider those in our Association and who enjoy the sport of shooting to be part of a larger family and it is up to us to help those in need.” said SSAA National President Bob Green.
“So far, we have raised $20,000 for the McGrath Foundation. With the passing of Jane, now is the time to show our continued support to those who have helped us. I ask our members to dig deep and donate to the McGrath Foundation to honour the memory of an inspirational Australian.”
SSAA National has undertaken to donate the proceeds of the August 2008 edition of Australian Shooter newsagency sales to the McGrath Foundation.
