The SSAA ACT INC, a sport shooting association founded in 1966, provides range facilities for members to participate in target shooting activities. The SSAA ACT has a wide range of shooting disciplines for rifle, pistol and shotgun
The SSAA ACT Majura Shooting Complex has Range Officers in attendance Monday to Friday 9am-4pm and Sunday 9am-12 noon, for members general target shooting sessions. The various shooting disciplines use the range on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. Authorised persons have access to the Range 24 hours 7 days a week.

Firearms safety awareness courses

Beginners course

We have a 1 day safe handling of firearms workshop, conducted by qualified firearm safety awareness instructors. The course aims to take you through all aspects of safe handling – both range and field.

Members general sessions

Non-discipline specific general shooting is held on Sunday mornings and weekdays. Targets are available for purchase. A Range Officer is normally available during these hours, Monday to Friday 9am-4pm; Sunday 9am-12 noon.

Air Pistol

Air Rifle

Benchrest

When benchrest is mentioned, many people think it means highly modified or tricked up (not to mention expensive) rifles. Whilst many have custom built rifles for some events, there are plenty of competitions in Hunter Class in which any magazine fed hunting rifle may be used. 4th Saturday 10am

Black Powder Section

This section covers all firearms using black powder – pistol, rifle and shotgun, muzzle and breech loading. The competitions are conducted under SSAA Black Powder Rules. 1st and 3rd Sunday 1pm

Combined Services

The Combined Services Section was formed to cater for the owners of military style rifles. A growing interest in military pistols has extended the section to cover these as well. No modification of firearms is allowed – they must be in “as issued” condition. So if you are interested in military firearms you will be more than welcome. Pistol 1st Sunday; Tactical rifle 2nd Sunday; Rifle 4th Sunday; all 1pm

Federal 500metre Fly Shoot

This tests the ability of shooters to achieve accuracy with rifles at 500m. Five shots are fired at a paper target featuring a “blowfly” as the bullseye. The rifles used can weigh up to 50lbs, be up to .49 calibre and must have a safe self-contained trigger. Competition held twice a year

Field Rifle/3 Position

This discipline uses rimfire and centrefire rifles in positions encountered in the field, over distances ranging from 25 to 200m. Shooting positions include standing, sitting, prone. 3rd Saturday 10am

Junior Development Section

This section operates to develop and encourage the sport of target shooting and to promote firearms safety awareness to young persons under 18 years of age. Qualified Ranges Officers supervising at all times. Beginners very welcome, club guns available. 1st and 3rd Sundays 8.45 to 11.45am

Lever Action

Lever Action was originally for your standard “cowboy” gun, 30/30, 44/40 etc. If you have any magazine fed lever action rifle, rim or centre fire, standard open sights, come along to this section. 2nd Saturday 12 noon

Muzzle Loading

This section values tradition and caters to the enthusiast wishing to shoot patched round ball muzzle-loaders in flintlock and percussion styles. 2nd and 4th Sundays 1pm

Rifle Metallic Silhouette

In this discipline steel targets in the shape of animals are knocked down. Ranges for centrefire are 200-500m; rimfire 40-100m. Shorter ranges for air rifle. All shooting is from the standing offhand position. It’s challenging and lot’s of fun. 1st Saturday 10am

Single Action Shooting

These shooters are “cowboys” in the true sense of the word. They use single-action revolvers, lever action rifles and side-by-side shotguns. Steel targets at varying distances are used. Many shooters wear traditional “cowboy” dress. No fast draw. 3rd Sunday 12 noon

Shotgun- Majura Park Gun Club

The SSPC conducts matches in all codes: ISU, Metallic Silhouette, Service, Rapid Fire, IPSU, ISSF and Action Match. Beginners welcome, club pistols available to probationary licence holders during weekly coaching sessions.
