Notice to NSW SSAA members
The NSW State Election on March 24 represents an opportunity for legitimate firearm owners in NSW to use their vote to make a positive difference to how they’re regulated and help reduce the mountains of unnecessary restrictions and red tape that inhibit the pursuit of our sport. NSW is the only Parliament in the world where a representative has been elected on a shooters rights platform. The Shooters Party was founded by John Tingle who was elected to the NSW Legislative Council (Upper House) in 1995. John retired last year and was replaced by Robert Brown MLC who will continue to hold the seat until 2011. As a lone political voice it was often difficult for John to implement positive change through the Parliament, but through sheer tenacity he was successful in having several Private Member’s Bills passed which significantly improved the lot of shooters in NSW. This election, long-serving SSAA member and current SSAA NSW Executive Director Roy Smith has been chosen to lead the Shooters Party ticket. After years spent advocating the rights of hunters and target shooters through the SSAA, his commitment and ability to help lead the Shooters Party alongside Robert Brown MLC, is unquestioned. The biggest problem faced by shooters in NSW is the Greens, which includes Lee Rhiannon MLC, who, many of you are aware, was founding chairperson of the Coalition of Gun Control. The Greens’ influence is growing right across Australia and indications are that they may win the balance of power in the NSW Parliament’s Upper House. We don’t need to explain what the scary consequences of a Greens-controlled Parliament would be; their policies include a ban on all semi-automatic handguns, prohibiting juniors from shooting and making it illegal to hunt in NSW State Forests. The Shooters Party are doing everything in their power to win an additional seat to stop the Greens from holding the balance of power in the NSW Upper House, and all sporting shooters can help by using their two votes wisely. Vote for your preferred candidate in the Lower House, which will determine which party wins Government, but use your Upper House vote to put another shooter in Parliament. Protect your rights, your sport, your firearms - Vote Shooters Party. |
