SSAA Hunting & Conservation Team wins award

The SA branch of the SSAA Hunting & Conservation group has many teams engaged in conservation work around South Australia. One such team has been engaged for some time in removing feral pests from around SA Water land, a lot of which covers water holdings and pine forest areas.

This program has been going on for a number of years, with the number of animals destroyed now more than 2000. Species such as, but not limited to, deer, foxes, hares and rabbits have been removed from sensitive areas; however, the program is ongoing, as any let-up in the hunting pressure has seen a return to the area of the same species.

SA Water recognised the work done by its many volunteers with an award ceremony to present the inaugural SA Water Environment Volunteer Appreciation certificates. The SSAA team of Helen Bourne (coordinator), Brendan Atkinson (team leader), Graham Henley, Garry Wood, Rory Watson and Mark Bourne all received certificates for their efforts in assisting SA Water’s land management programs.
