Increased penalties for criminals using weapons, suggests criminologist

A Gold Coast criminologist supports the doubling of the penalty for the dangerous use of guns and knives, saying that more research is needed in the area as well.
The Queensland Government has said that knives were used in more than half of sexual offences and robberies in the state in 2006/2007, as well as 48 per cent of homicides.
