Hunting with gundogs Channel 7 (Brisbane), Great South East, 27/07/2008 05:37 Dogs have assisted humans with hunting for centuries, the United Field and Retrieving Club continuing the tradition by offering training in duck retrieving. In competition, the owner fires a blank shot and a plastic duck is catapulted into the field, the dog judged on style, eagerness and retrieving ability, only gun dog breeds such as retrievers, spaniels and pointers able to participate. Dogs have also been relied on for their keen sense of smell, a particularly useful talent for tracking. Regular tracking trials are hosted by the United Field and Retrieving Club and spectators are welcome. |
