Compere Anne Delaney talks to Roy Smith, NSW Shooters’ Party MP, about Shooters’ Party legislation, which was recently passed by State Parliament. Smith says the legislation will reduce the waiting time for those who renew their firearms licences. He says under the new legislation it will be easier for those who do not have firearms licenses to try out shooting under supervision. Smith says some of the restrictions placed on target shooters were a response to the Port Arthur massacre. He says the legislation will also make it legal to own most antique firearms without a license. Smith says the legislation will allow police to issue penalty notices for minor gun law transgressions. He says the departure of the Howard Government has opened the way for state governments to review gun laws. Smith says he has not yet made a decision on whether or not to support electricity privatisation.
