The Brazilian government is to launch a campaign as part of an effort to get 300,000 guns off the streets and to cut the country’s high murder rate.
Anyone who hands over a firearm will receive between $70 and $200 and will not be investigated if they were holding the weapon illegally.
The campaign, which will cost the government more than $32 million, will be promoted by advertising on television and radio, in newspapers and on the internet.
