SSAA SA H&C and Friends of the Parks SA ABC North & West SA (Port Pirie), Morning Show, 19/08/2008 09:22am Compere Kieran Weir says just recently the Friends of the Parks in South Australia had a forum. Vince Monterola says 143 groups around the state are associated with Friends of Parks. He says a lot of the DEH staff work very closely with volunteers. He says they have about 45 staff members. Weir says Minister for Environment and Conservation Jay Weatherill was there paying tribute to the invaluable contribution volunteers make. Monterola talks about the work of volunteers in national parks and the control of feral animals in the Flinders. He says Peter Watkins of Operation Bounceback has been running the program for eight years. He says the Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia have a Hunting & Conservation branch and help with the control of feral goats. Monterola talks about the six awards for volunteers they presented. He details how to become a volunteer. Weir says Monterola is a representative of Friends of Flinders Ranges National Park. |
