Australia’s firearms past and America’s future
ABC 936 Hobart (Hobart), Statewide Mornings, 15/04/2008 10:15am
Compere Tim Cox introduces Jonathan Green, Spokesman, Crikey. Green says it was great to see John Howard again on the public stage. Green says Howard visited the George Bush presidential library in Texas and nominated his greatest achievement in public life as gun control.
Green says Hillary Clinton has claimed her father taught her to shoot. Green says Obama has responded with an Annie Oakley jibe. Green says the gun issue is important to the Democrats to make it look like they are not condescending to the working class.
Green thinks the concern about the Nelson Leadership now is that the party has now stopped listening to the party and they need to reassure their power base. Cox says he has heard that Brendan Nelson has been given until August to prove himself. Green believes Malcolm Turnbull is still after the position and there will be a reassessment of the Leadership. Green says there is suspicion about Malcolm Turnbull because he has too many emotions over issues such as Aboriginal Australia. Green says Target is the biggest firearms dealer in Australia.
