More than 50 competitors from around NSW participated
in the 2007 5-Stand State Titles that was held through the hospitality
of the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie CTC on 23-24 June. With 200 targets
over two days, three 5-Stand layouts were set up by club members Graeme
Hayes, Frank Searles, Kevin Raymond and others while the fourth layout
was provided by SSAA's 5-Stand trailer, managed by John Nichols. An
excellent variety of challenging, but very shootable targets were offered
to competitors.
Avoiding the wild weather of the previous weekend the Titles were conducted in fine shooting conditions.
At the end of 200 targets Andrew Garvie and John Nichols were tied with 180/200. Following a shoot off that went two rounds Veteran Mudgee shooter John Nichols demonstrated his wide experience and expertise in winning the 2007 State 5-Stand Championships.
Newcastle competitor Kevin Raymond seriously injured his left arm on the previous Thursday and despite an operation and an overnight stay in hospital, determinedly shot all weekend and nearly made it a three way shoot off.
Other winners were:
Junior U15 winner, Ben Hayes accepts his prizes from
Warren Brown and Grahame Gosling (Club Secretary)

Veteran's winner David Brenton
has a few words to say

Glen Bloink, C Grade winner

The State Titles were preceded by three State Selection Shoots that were held at Shoalhaven, Mudgee and Griffith. Points are allocated on performances at each of these shoots with the points from the best shoot added to the points gained at the State Titles. The following shooters made the 2007 SSAA NSW State Shotgun Team and won a custom shooting jacket: Anthony Cahill (Cobar), Dean Delaney (Dubbo), Laurie Redfern (Forbes), Craig Tilley (Sydney) and Kevin Raymond (Newcastle). Team reserves in order are: Greg Allen (Griffith), Frank Scambellone (Sydney), David Brenton (Wollongong), Russell McCloy (Old Bar).
SSAA expressed it's sincere thanks to the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie CTC and it's members who helped with the layouts and in the office as well as the ladies from the local Rural Bush Fire Brigade who provided some excellent catering during the weekend.
All competitors were appreciative of the generous sponsorship provided by EXPRESS cartridges and Casella Wines with all winners returning home with a generous supply of both as well as some SSAA merchandise.
